If you have used VA education benefits before at another college or while on active duty, you do not need to re-apply for your benefits.
Increased Active Duty will change your benefit options. Contact Hawkeye's Veterans Services Coordinator to review your options.
To transfer your education benefits to Hawkeye, you will need to:
-
Complete VA Form 22-1995 or 22-5495 for dependents.
-
Bring a copy of the Certificate of Eligibility letter from the VA to Hawkeye's Veterans Services Coordinator.
-
Complete the Request for Veteran Enrollment Certification form each semester after you have registered for classes and return it to Hawkeye's Veterans Services Coordinator.
-
Notify Hawkeye's Veterans Services Coordinator via email if you change your enrollment or program of study.
-
Processing of your VA education benefits application takes eight to ten weeks. They will send a series of letters including a Certificate of Eligibility and an Award Letter that will indicate the dates of the semester and your rate of payment to expect for the semester.
-
If you are under Chapter 1606, 1607 (REAP) or Chapter 30, you must verify your attendance each month to receive payment.
-
Your VA education benefits are prorated by the number of days in the month. If your classes start later that the first of the month or end before the last day of the month, payment will be prorated by the actual number of days in classes.
-
Taking 4-week, 5-week, 8-week, or 12-week courses may affect your payment rates.
-
Taking all online courses with the Post 9/11 will affect your housing allowance.
-
You must notify Hawkeye's Veterans Services Coordinator via email of any change to your program or enrollment via email.
-
Failure to attend must be reported to the VA and may result in a debt with the VA.
-
Withdrawing from courses could result in a debt with the VA unless mitigating circumstances are present.
-
Repeated courses could potentially not be covered by your VA education benefits. Check with Hawkeye's Veterans Services Coordinator prior to registering.
